As you look back to where you have come from, you can see trees on one side of the ridge, and desert shrubs on the other side. This is unique how one side gets more moisture than the other.

Voted 8/10 | I wouldn't say that is unique. To some degree, this type of thing happens all over the world--even here in the Pacific Northwest (though it's not ordinarily desert on the dry side here but less-vegetated terrain--at least west of the Cascade Crest). | | Posted May 27, 2003 2:06 pm |

Hasn't voted | The side that has only shrubs and grasses on it is a south facing slope and gets more direct sunlight on it throughout the year. The north facing slope sees much less direct rays of sunlight and is a little bit cooler, allowing trees to grow. | | Posted Dec 9, 2003 1:41 pm |
