This rather unusual look taken during descent from Rising Wolf. Flinsch Peak is on the far left, then (with the seemingly flat top), Mount Stimson, with Mount Morgan rising above the lake on the right. The two lakes are Young Man Lake (L), and Oldman Lake (R). (Interesting bit of language trivia, that one of the tarns is shown on maps as one word, while the other is broken into a more normal two-word appellation. Hence, "Young Man," versus "Oldman.") Voted 10/10 | I had never noticed that Mt. Stimson was in this photo until I saw it this time. Then I suddenly remembered that Rising Wolf Mtn was the mountain we circumnavigated during our Stimson trip last August. Only then did I recognize the terrain from Cut Bank Pass to Pitamakan Pass and from there down toward Oldman Lake. And of course the profile of Mt. Stimson itself is now indelibly carved into my little remaining gray matter. Little did I realize way back when I voted on this photo that I would someday visit any of the points in the photo, much less several of its key locations -- traversed the back side of Flinsch Peak, hiked over Cut Bank Pass twice, hiked over Pitamakan Pass and down toward Oldman Lake, then down the trail toward Two Medicine, and of course most importantly, climbed the entire SE ridge of Stimson! Amazing! Wish you could have been there! But I wouldn't recommend the route -- if you're going to have to bushwhack anyway, might as well bushwhack up Pinchot Creek and get the peak done in 3 days instead of 5! -Bob | | Posted Dec 8, 2008 11:10 pm |
