Hasn't voted | Hi! I am hoping to do this route next week, but was wondering if you could tell me how far up the road you have to go before it becomes too difficult for a non-4WD vehicle? (In my case it's a Ford Focus; a tough one with a manual trans., but still just a Focus.) Even if you don't remember the exact location, a general estimate would be great. Thanks! | | Posted Jul 6, 2007 6:33 pm |

Hasn't voted | I was just up the road a few weeks ago. It is not difficult. There are a few spots where clearance might be an issue, but I'm guessing you can maneuver your Focus up the road around the obstacles. I'm thinking you'll get up the road fairly far. However, if you rip out your oil pan, this message will disappear! :>) Good luck and have fun. It's a great route. | | Posted Jul 9, 2007 12:49 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks for the info! I have driven on a lot of forest service roads with my Focus, so I have learned a lot about what the car can and can't do. Hopefully I have learned enough! | | Posted Jul 9, 2007 9:24 am |

Hasn't voted | Hi Thank you for the great route description - I was wondering how far up one could make it in a Jeep Grand Cherokee in Mid-May and if the climb would be doable at that time (I have snowshoes and crampons) | | Posted Apr 24, 2009 4:10 pm |

Hasn't voted | It is unlikely the road will be open in mid May. More like mid to late June. Of course you can hike the road in and it would be wise to take your shoes or skis in with you. The climb is on the lee side of the mountain so snow should be present on most of the route in May, as well as on the ridge line, where cornices may likely persist as well. The climb is greatly shortened and goes very fast if you wait until late June or beyond. Otherwise it will be a long day. Glad you liked the route page and it was helpful for you. Good luck! | | Posted Apr 25, 2009 7:03 pm |

Hasn't voted | I guess my quest to find a suitable mountain in May that is without a lot of snow is just not going to happen :-) | | Posted Apr 25, 2009 9:57 pm |
