Just one question - the other pics made it look like you were climbing snow or neve in this thing, not ice. I recall your posts on the California forum, and it sounded like you all went in July. Was there any ice then, or was it just snow / neve ? My understanding is that usually you don't see ice in that gully until August. Just curious.

We climbed in late July. The pics are showing snow, we didn't hit the ice until further up the gully when we retreated to the ridge.
Once we hit the ice we were tired and not thinking about pictures as much as bomber placements, a maximized use of the few ice screws we did have, and a safe line of retreat to the rock ridge and hotlum/wintun snowfield.

Ah, now I remember.

btw When we went up last weekend the upper section of that snowfield you retreated to was all ice too !
