Voted 10/10 | This is the fruiting head of leatherleaf saxifrage, also known as false saxifrage. The scientific name is Leptarrhena pyrolifolia. The flowers are pretty simple and not very showy, but on a bright sunny day the red seed heads almost glow. | | Posted Oct 13, 2006 12:56 am |

Hasn't voted | WOW! Thanks so much! I've asked my biology professor at my University to find their name, searched all over the internet to no avail. Well, I love them anyways. They add so much color to the creeks and meadows. | | Posted Oct 13, 2006 12:59 am |

Voted 10/10 | Yes, they are among my favorites too. They are not as common in the inland mountains, at least not below the border. I've only seen them in the Selkirks of north Idaho. The thick bicolored leaves are pretty neat as well. | | Posted Oct 13, 2006 1:13 am |
