A toad, probably an American Toad (
Bufo Americanus - there are a couple of recognized subspecies but I can't tell them apart), not far below the summit of Mt Jefferson. He was in a sheltered spot that was home to a few small fir trees. My guess is he hopped up from the Great Gulf, since that's the shortest distance to the forest. Maybe it's my imagination, but he looks undernourished to me. Compare
this toad found at a lower altitude.
I had to include this photo not only because of the remarkable location, but because this particular toad is so colorful and warty.
