Voted 10/10 | Photoshop is an ice/mixed route on the Bard-Harrington Wall in Lee Vining Canyon (Eastern Sierra, California).
(Rick - maybe attaching these pics to that page would help ?) | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 4:15 pm |

Voted 10/10 | One other thing - I notice that this pic is actually from Doug Nidever's Ice Report web site. I don't know if that would violate his copyright (if any) or not. | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 4:44 pm |

Hasn't voted | Doug doesn't mind! Asked him last week when we spoke at length at MMS as long as it used to promote Lee Vining Ice in a safe and conservative format. Informing folks of the fragile relationship that He has personally built with SC&E, the Landowner's of this area!
Also, look down at the Photo Shop page, http://www.summitpost.org/route/186120/Photo-Shop-Photo-Shop-CS-WI4-WI5-M4-M5.html, and you will find Doug Nidiver's site, "The Mountainguide.com, as a linked reference!

| nartreb | re copyright | |
Hasn't voted | Copyright belongs to the photographer. See the summitpost FAQ and Terms of Use: this needs to be deleted unless Chief either took it or got the photographer's permission to use it.
(A person shown in a photograph will have privacy rights and some other rights to prevent certain uses of the photo (eg, expect a lawsuit if you use a photo to misleadingly imply that a celebrity endorses your product), but no copyright.) | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 5:27 pm |

Hasn't voted | So who was the photographer? That's whose permission you need. If you have permission to use a photo someone else took, you should say so in the caption so the elves don't delete it.
(Giving attribution to the source doesn't really make any difference in copyright law, though it's polite.) | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 7:38 pm |

Hasn't voted | Actually it was one of Doug's Guides and was shot with Doug's Service/Business camera. Therefore, Doug owns all the Rights. | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 9:07 pm |

Hasn't voted | I almost put in a parenthesis about employers being considered the "author" of "works made for hire", but didn't want to open that can of worms. It didn't occur to me that anyone could make enough money ice climbing to have employees taking photos of them "within the scope of their employment." | | Posted Sep 19, 2006 10:00 pm |
