| Ohio Peak, San Juan Mountains | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||||||||||
The last rays of sunshine for the day befall the town of Silverton, which is seen looking down Cement Creek from the summit ridge of Ohio Peak near the south end of the Red Mountains sub range of the San Juans. The summit is seen on the right side of the photo. The dark clouds are that of an early winter storm that was moving in on the range September 21st. It was snowing within an hour. This was the second of three storms to eventually bury the range in up to 3 feet of snow and bring a quick end to the short fall season. Above Silverton rises Kendall Mountain, part of the Silverton Caldera group, and to the right are the Grenadier and Needles sub-ranges of the San Juan.
