The Mazatzal Mountains
A panoramic sweep of the Mazatzal Mountains taken from AZ-87 (hwy) south of Payson, October 2006. Mazatzal Peak is the pointier peak to the right (left of the broader foreground peak), while Mount Ord is the prominent peak toward the left.

Yeah, this is what central Arizona is all about! Was this photo taken near Rye? HEY, Payson & AZ-87 were pretty packed & crazy during the Labor Day holiday. Lots of campers were out & about - I often wonder how many of them actually climb peaks. "Hats off to you," for showcasing your great pics on Summitpost!

I took this photo pulling off of the Beeline a bit north of Rye. It was where the road was still on the downhill - I happened to see a side road that led to some fencing, so I hopped it and walked out to an open promontory. The day was crystal clear. Seems every other time I drive by Mazatzal it's cloudy or the sun is behind it...
