Morning Glory Pool. This thermal feature lies but a few feet off the old road to Old Faithful. This close proximity not only made it very popular, it had nearly spelled its demise. So many coins and misc. other items were tossed into it that it was nearly choked into nonexistence. It was induced to erupt in 1950 in order to clean the vent and the list of items removed was staggering. In 1971 the highway was rerouted past this area and in doing so may have saved this beautiful pool and other thermal features as well. For more information on all thermal features may I suggest the wonderful guide "The Geysers of Yellowstone" by T. Scott Bryan.

Hasn't voted | Thanks for the input! This pool has never been a true "geyser" but has been a very beautiful thermal pool despite the changing hand of careless man. | | Posted Nov 11, 2006 7:27 am |

Hasn't voted | Thanks very much. The colors used to be bluish-green around the edge before the careless tossing in of debris. | | Posted Jan 19, 2007 1:04 pm |

Voted 10/10 | My wife and I have made it official. We're headed to Yellowstone/Grand Tetons in 2008. Probably in August. It'll be a two-week trip. We'll take our fiberglass trailer out there and we hope to book at least two nights in one of the lodges once we arrive.
