Voted 10/10 | not having to climb about in the dark at all! Is there still a significant daily temperature variation? | | Posted Sep 27, 2008 3:28 am |

Hasn't voted | Alaska's daylight certainly allows for 24 hour climbing. Though not as hot as lava exploding from some remote volcano, daytime temps do get up into Tshirt weather. Our first night on the glacier we hiked until 12:30am with temps down to 5degrees F.
PS. You a vulcanologist? | | Posted Sep 27, 2008 1:57 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I suppose I was wondering whether the temperature variation affects stability of the ice and snow and if that is a concern. I recall reading that at other mountains that such things are a concern and hence not climbing during the day is preferred. But I'm not really a mountaineer by any means, volcanology certainly got in the way of that ambition for the mean time! But I like reading about big mountain climbing all the same, vicarious living if you will :) | | Posted Sep 27, 2008 7:42 pm |
