This was the higher of the two steps in Wire Pass canyon one has to negotiate. The shorter one was about 4 feet high and was an easy climb. This one was about seven feet high and would have proved difficult without the ladder-like log. I wondered how such a log that was obviously placed there by humans could not be washed downstream in a flood. I also tried to figure out the process by which such a step would form. I'm thinking they form when a boulder becomes an obstruction after getting stuck. Rock and sand and logs then back up behind the obstruction. Maybe. Photo taken July 5, 2003.
