Thank you. I got an early start on the approach hike. The sun was coming up over the ridge just as I arrived at the waterfall.

Ha! Thanks Dan, some climbers have fallen while climbing the crux when the narrowest part of the falls has collapsed and exploded. The sun does make for nice photos but is not good for ice climbing.

Ice Man Jerry VanThat is a hard and fun climb

I climbed Malans waterfall in 1984 with my old ice tools and alpine hammer and topped out with arms that felt like lead and almost drained of energy. Glad to see the photo

Thanks! I have seen many people drained of energy after climbing Malans Waterfall. It is one of the most beautiful falls in the Ogden area.

58 seconds to spare. Fast competition if you ask me. Dan has some of the best photos for ice and mixed climbing on SP.

Thanks Mark! I took this photo early in the morning. The sun was just coming out over the ridge above the waterfall.

Seeing Malan's waterfall iced over reminds me of the three little children who died over Christmas 1963 trying to climb it. There is a monument in Mt. Ogden Park to their memory.

I think the waterfall is beautiful in winter. A lot of people including children go up there and some accidents and fatalities have occurred. They try to climb up the steep rock or ice without any gear and then fall. I’m not sure why they do this but it is very unfortunate.
