Mt. Lyell [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Mt. Lyell
As we skied up and over Donohue Pass (11,056'), the sight of Mt. Lyell (13,114') came into view. We had skied this peak back in early April, 1974, and I had wished to do it again. My partners were becoming fatigued, and then the trip leader assured me that if I carried his sleeping bag up to Donohue Pass, I could leave it there and then proceed out back to our car at Silver Lake. This was some 11 more miles from our campsite just north of this pass. Full of energy, I did just that, then let loose solo for the car. I had plenty enough gear, aside from a tent, so I knew I would make it. April 11, 1979

"We have nothing against the practice slopes and the standard runs, but if that's all you know, you've missed something special; something lost beyond the ranges, a glistening new white world with its hard edges covered over for the winter, and you its discoverer."   --Dave Brower
