Gem Lake [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Gem Lake
Navigating solo, I was entirely confident to know the way. I had come near here while doing the John Muir Trail, and already had climbed many of the peaks. I didn't need to look at the map, much, since I knew Rush Creek empties exactly where I was headed. Just head along the creek, downhill. I figured the others would rapidly follow my new set track, and shortly arrive behind me. This is a view back west, over the reservoir. April 11, 1979

"We have nothing against the practice slopes and the standard runs, but if that's all you know, you've missed something special; something lost beyond the ranges, a glistening new white world with its hard edges covered over for the winter, and you its discoverer."   --Dave Brower
