Since everyone seems to like this shot so much, I posted another nearly identical one from the year before (2005). Hasn't voted | being a geologist my nerdyness forces me to respond. Yes Katahdin is essentially granitic in composition, but has many dikes and is foliated, therefore it is technically a gneiss. In fact most of the 'granite' in the neighboring granite state of New Hampshire is gneiss too.

Voted 10/10 | How do I get to Pamola's Fniger from Pamola Peak? The summit marker is right on the Knife Edge and when I hiked Baxter and Pamola, I didn't see the Finger or any side trail near the peak. Also, how hard is it to get to the top?
