Alpine Rose Rhododendron ferrugineum [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Alpine Rose Rhododendron ferrugineum
The source of the Romanche with his Alpine Roses. Rhododendron ferrugineum (sometimes called alpenrose, snow-rose, or rusty-leaved alpenrose) is an evergreen shrub that grows just above the treeline in the Alps, Pyrenees, Jura and northern Apennines, on acid soils. It may grow up to 1 m tall and produces clusters of pinkish-red, bell-shaped flowers throughout the summer. The undersides of the leaves are covered in rust-brown spots, which give the species its scientific name.

It's at the source of the Romanche near La Grave in the French Alps. It a shame you can't see the blue milky colour of the water. It was like heaven's gardens overthere.

Tnx, Was funny. I searched like half an hour to find the right spot. And still I couldn't get the picture I had in mind. I miss the blue colour of the water. And there were so much more Rododenderons hanging over the river.
I Putted some more pictures of the vally in my gallerie.

this is the pic what took me the most time in my life. I searched for about half an hour to find the spot for this composition.
It's also only grass what can grow next to this flower. It has a kind of poison in his roots what prevents other plants to grow in it's neighborhood.

That is incredible! The water looks like it is very cold! Are there any GOATS in these mountains? Do they eat the grass, or do they
frolic in the higher mountains? It looks like
a PARADISE for the HUMAN eyes! Thank you!!!
