The first optional descent...
The first optional descent option discussed in the Redcloud-Sunshine Route Emporium is seen here in this photo. A contour out across this talus slope (due north) stays high to avoid difficulties in the center of the picture and lower left hand corner. The route then drops to angle down toward the tundra on the lower left side of the photo, where a trail is intercepted and followed back to the standard Silver Creek route. This option would come in handy as a bail route in bad weather, but is not recommended as an ascent route. Experience in loose San Juan scree/talus "skiing" is recommended. Summer, 2003.
