| Jay's Discovery (5.1) | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
This route, Jay's Discovery, is left (downstream) of Layback Dihedral. The beginning is tricky for unroped climbers, but some Class 3 and 4 scrambling to the left of this formation can get you to the small overhang, after which a tricky stretch even for tall people gets you into the upper system, where there are good holds and low Class 5 moves remaining to reach the top, which is about 20 feet away from the Mather plaque mentioned on the main page.

Voted 10/10 | I've done this line. Is it "Jay's discovery"? | | Posted Apr 24, 2007 7:14 pm |

Hasn't voted | It's not in the book I referenced on the Dihedrals page, whch is the book I used to list the routes here. However, I've seen all kinds of routes out here that aren't in the book. This one is the first real climb available at the downstream end of Dihedrals. Do you remember the difficulty? I was unroped and bypassed the lower section, which is harder than the upper. There was a move near the overhang that was 5.4, maybe 5.5, but after that it was much easier.

Voted 10/10 | Can't remember the difficulty to save my life. But I'm pretty sure this route is Jay's Discovery. My brother and I soloed just about everything at Great Falls that was under 5.5/5.6 back in those days, so I remember them pretty damned well. Wish I could tell you the rating, but I can only remember low 5th class... then again, we may've snuck around the hard part! | | Posted Apr 25, 2007 9:44 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks. I'll at least add this title to the caption, and probably mention the route on the main page, too.

Voted 10/10 | Found my '85 guidebook the other day... that's it all right. Crazy to see that again! | | Posted Apr 27, 2007 7:22 pm |

Hasn't voted | Thanks again. I've added that route to the list on the page. I'd better look for a current book focused just on the area so that maybe I can get info on some other "unnamed" routes I've climbed and/or photographed. | | Posted Apr 28, 2007 7:00 pm |
