lcarreauWhen do you have winter?

Voted 10/10

No ... I love your photos, but most likely won't be coming to Europe anytime soon. My question is: Are you experiencing (having) your winter right now? AND when you do, does the body of water in this picture FREEZE? This area looks like it has a SANDY BEACH along the shoreline - looks like the ideal location to spend a holiday. (I'll be stuck here in America, at least for the remainder of the year.) But, LOVE THE EXOTIC PHOTOS !!!

No, it's autumn. It's 14 degrees (57 F). The body of water is Östersjön, it's brackish water. Down here in the south it does rarely freeze, even though it happens. Further up north it always freezes. One can walk across to Finland (but for the channel the icebreakers keep open)

The beach is fantastic! It goes a very long way in both directions, (totally more than 50 km/31 miles) and one can't see from up here, but there's a part which could be from any Caribbean island, my favourite stretch. This is actually a big tourist place, we're totally invaded through all summer.

Sweden is a very long country, and the climate differs a lot, from the north to the south. The Arctic is an amazing place, I love it. It's harsh, but down here, it's mellow.
Winter starts in October/November up there, down here maybe in January. But it's very dark in November and December through out the entire country. Opposite during the summer, all light.

Thank you for this valuable information. Right now, I'm what American's call an ARMCHAIR ADVENTURER - just sitting here in front of the computer. I promise to do research on Sweden. Is there anything in AMERICA you'd like information on? - just give me e-mail. Cheers! (THAT sounds great regarding the beach; sounds like you have a very deep PRIDE for your HOMELAND.)THANKS!!!-
I can see how Swedes keep themselves fit. Amazing!

lcarreauAn afterthought ...

I don't know why - but for some reason, this area reminds me of Nome, Alaska. There's a beach right outside of Nome, along the Bering Seacoast. It is such BEAUTIFUL isolation! Have you ever traveled to Alaska?

No, I haven't been in Alaska, but I would like to. Even more, I'd like to travel up the western states all the way up. It's one of those trips which has been on the wish list for a long time. I have been through almost all the east coast states, and across from Florida to California. I've been through Arizona - a very exciting nature there!

;-) At the moment I'm a fellow armchair traveller too, I love reading about places I would like to return to, places don't think I ever will make, and places which goes on the planning list.
