Bison Peak is near Tarryall Reservoir in the Retirement Range. I recommend John & Jennifer Roach's book on summit hikes in the Lost Creek Wilderness. I'm heading there this weekend, in fact. Happy hiking!

This area is amazing. I was here on a cloudy and overcast day, and the overabundant rock formations made it even more eerie and Mars-like. Nice one!

Thanks for the feedback. I love these mountains. They may not be as grand as the 14ers around the state, but they make up for it with their...strangeness of rock formations.

That looks really fun to climb. How did it get there?

Mark,

Here is more Summit Post information about Bison Peak.

http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/151572/bison-peak.html

This monolith in the photo is near the summit of Bison Peak.

From a geological standpoint, Bison Peak and McCurdy Mountain and others in the area are part of the same "uplift" that formed Pikes Peak. Amazing!

Keep hiking!

This is one amazing part of Colorado. And the best part? No 14ers + very few trails to summits = NO BODY! My husband and I have hiked all day in this area without seeing another soul. Priceless!

Cheers!
