The cover of the December... [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The cover of the December...
The cover of the December 1974 issue of Summit Magazine-one of my favorites. Entitled a Peek at Lenin. A climber grasps the art of Socialist Realism at 7406m

One of the strangest pics I've seen! Did you find it in an achive?

"Summit" was one of the few domestic climbing magazines back then. I had a subscription till they stopped publishing around 1990. Once in a while I would be more self indulgent and get an issue of "Mountain" published in Britain by Ken Wilson. Their photos even of the second on a pitch made one's palms sweat. "Mountain" was the "Alpinist" of its day.

Thank you for adding the image. Most of those relics are now gone.

I used to subscribe to Summit Magazine as well. Those were the goodol days! I never saw this cover shot. It must have been before I subscribed.
Interesting shot though.

Was this photo attached to a recap of the "international climbing summit" held in the Caucasus that year?

John Roskelley and some Americans were there, as was Doug Scott I believe. I think this is also when a Russian womens team was killed.

I'm fascinated by this time period in World Mountaineering. Does Summit have a report?
