Lake 8740+, northeast of the peak. This beautiful setting was an unexpected benefit of my overenthusiasm in heading cross-country.
The broad chute seen in the background behind the lake ended up being the descent route--this is likely the quickest way up the peak.

Hasn't voted | Thanks, Misha! One drawback of doing the really long dayhikes is that I can't wait around for decent lighting conditions, and rarely have the patience to search around for a better shot. (I've noticed a distinct inverse correlation between the length of the hike and the quality of my pictures). I probably got lucky here. | | Posted Sep 24, 2003 12:49 pm |

Hasn't voted | Good shot! It looks like the mountain is composed of metamorphic rock similar to Ritter. | | Posted Sep 24, 2003 1:47 pm |

Piute has some good, solid rock--much nicer than the loose stuff in the Ritter Range. Someone more ambitious than me could probably find some very enjoyable technical routes on the peak, almost certainly first ascents. | | Posted Sep 24, 2003 1:54 pm |

Hasn't voted | It was wonderful--I sat there for half an hour just soaking it in. A gorgeous setting. | | Posted Jan 6, 2005 10:39 pm |
