Red Butte [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Red Butte
Red Butte from the summit of Pine Valley Peak, 5.5, Zion National Park, Kolob Terrace area, southeast of Kolob Canyon and northwest of Zion Canyon. This "Red Butte" stands out like a sore thumb from the summit plateau of West Temple. This is a much closer perspective from Pine Valley Peak. Red Butte is not a difficult summit to attain, but an obscure objective by Zion standards. May, 2007

""You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art of conducting oneself in the lower regions by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can no longer see, one can at least still know.""   --Rene Daumal
