Pacific Rhododendron [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Pacific Rhododendron
Pacific rhododendron--rhododendron macrophyllum--native to Washington and Oregon. It is the state flower of Washington. Normally the pacific rhododendron grows in mid elevation forests. This shrub was out in the open on West Zig Zag Mountain at about 4500 feet elevation which may help explain its compact growth pattern. The lodgepole pine next to the rhododendron and the subalpine fir behind it are strange conpanions.
