| Broad Tailed Hummingbird | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
Broad Tailed Hummingbird at Suess Wall, Running Scared Crag. They are always buzzing us at every high elevation crag we visit in southwestern Utah. Very territorial creatures, arguments usually break out as to who gets to harass the climbers. Brian Head, UT, May, 2007

Voted 10/10 | I've been dive bombed by humming birds while climbing, but I thought it was my red helmet. I didn't realize they were territorial. | | Posted Sep 24, 2007 8:11 pm |

Hasn't voted | Well, it's Dow's picture, but I can't resist to comment.
Lisa, they are territorial, but only towards each other. They chase away only other hummingbirds. One time I watched both a hummingbird and a hummingbird moth (insect) to feed from the same plant and they seemed to be willing to share.
Hummingbirds were attracted to your red helmet for sure. They thought you were a flower. Cheers. | | Posted Sep 24, 2007 8:45 pm |

Voted 10/10 | I think I'll have to find out more about humming birds. We have a lot around our house. They like the honey suckle. | | Posted Sep 24, 2007 9:05 pm |

Hasn't voted | that is what I meant guys...harassing each other over territory, not us...but yeah, they like to get close when we are climbing no matter what we are wearing...funny, always get attention in southern Utah...this year, first time we actually were visited in Canada on the wall by a hummingbird...much more rare up there...cheers | | Posted Sep 24, 2007 9:16 pm |
