Exposure issues on the upper route aside, this start might be the technically hardest part of the climb. The rock down here is very smooth, and even new climbing shoes are going to slide all over it. Then there's the small overhang to deal with. It's actually easier, though not easy, to approach from the left and go across the overhanging block instead.
