| Sierra junipers & cumulus | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||||||||||
...mouse click to enlarge... These sierra juniper, juniperus occidentalis, trees live at about 8k elevation in the Glen Alpine Creek draingage of Desolation Wilderness. The lat/lon coordinates shown are within a couple miles of actual. I exposed this 4x5 sheet of Provia 100F transparency film with my 150mm Nikkor lens on June 8, 2007 in the afternoon. Unfortunately a slightly wider lens would have worked better as my frame was not quite able to isolate all the branches of the leftmost tree. However the opportunity for a capture with some dramatic dark cumulus buildups behind more than made up for that flaw. One of my favorite strategies in frame composition for any tree species is isolation up against the sky and here my tripod position was jammed againt another tree and some brush with no where to back up.
