Quaking aspen, populus tremuloides, have for many years been a fall quarry of mine. Thus many trips and piles of images over the years between the end of September till mid October to our eastern Sierra Nevada groves. As a serious landscape photographer here in California for nearly three decades, I never tire of visiting those areas when days are shorter, the morning's frosty, and the autumn air often considerably clearer than during summer. The below image was taken last year in 2006. I used my 90mm Caltar lens to expose this 4x5 sheet of Provia 100F transparency film.

We had absolutely optimal bright overcast light at the time for photographing down in aspen forests. Leaf color conditions inside this remote grove I refer to as the "Twisted Red Aspen Grove" were peaking such that it looked like a magical candy cane land.

The image is available on my below home page gallery as a 38x30 inch Lightjet fine art print. For additional information on this image see link.
