Thanks Alex. The birds are so gentle you can be very close to them. This one was probably 2 meters away.

Thanks - I do - Latrabjarg (the most western bit of Europe (or Iceland for that matter). We spent several days among the puffins and other birds.

cold smoked in Reykjavik, breast, and it tasted more or less like fish. Little did I know that I will see them again on cereal boxes, and then on SP. Maybe we should have stuck with :P hakarl instead...

well might be able to rummage up a rotted shark photo too!!:)We did see puffin on many menus but after snuggling with them it was kind of hard to picture them as an hors d'oveuvre.

Our local host was doing the ordering and the only reason I still remember this appetizer so many years later is because of this "Wow, it wasn't a fish?" kind of surprise. Unfortunately it was a tight-schedule business trip so we never got to see the countryside. The "city anthropology" was pretty amazing too, though :)
