Miss World of Small [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Miss World of Small
This lovely lady Rufous Hummingbird
let me get my camera very lose to her and take this macro shot.
Photographed on top of Big Falls in the Spring Mountains, Nevada.
July 2007.

Hummingbirds are the smallest birds in the world and are recognized as the second largest family (Trochilidae) in the New World. They are found only in the New World (North, Central and South America), from the steamy tropics, to mountains, to desert areas.
They have the ablility to hoover and fly backwards, which is impressive to watch.

He is right. All your wildlife photos are really great. You should send some to National Geographic.
Cheers.

Aww, thank you Tomi. I'm not really fishing for compliments, but this is one of the nicest I ever got. The praise should also go to my "models" They are gorgeous miracles of nature. Cheers.

Thank you. This photo took a lot of patience. After unsuccessful attempts of getting close to other hummingbirds, I finally found one that didn't mind me sitting next to "her" branch.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a look at my lovely friend :) What's really funny is that she tolerated my presence next to her, but each time another hummingbird showed up nearby she would chase them away. I felt honored.
Geetings, Anya.
