Voted 10/10 | of the summit area. The last
time I visited Crater Lake in
Oregon, I could see Shasta
from the road coming in from
the south. Must be over 100
miles distant, right? | | Posted Jan 14, 2008 5:04 pm |

Hasn't voted | Many thanks. Not quite a 100 I don't think - perhaps 100km.
I've seen Shasta from the summit of Lassen Peak. That's 100 miles to the south and from Mt McLaughlin in Oregon - that's perhaps 100 miles too.
I swear I've also seen it from the summit of Theilson (~150 miles) and South Sister (>200 miles). I've also seen Mt Baker from the summit of Adams (~175 miles) - and there I've got the photo to prove it - in cold and, therefore, clear conditions. | | Posted Jan 14, 2008 6:47 pm |

Voted 10/10 | That is so neat! So you climbed Theilson?
That must be a challenging climb! The thing
resembles a "lightning rod" from Crater Lake
north. Congratulations on your accomplishments! (Clear conditions are rare!) | | Posted Jan 14, 2008 8:18 pm |

Hasn't voted | Theilson isn't difficult providing you have a reasonable tolerance for exposure and are comfy on Class 4 - particularly downclimbing Class 4. Or take a rope - many do.
Cheers,
