| Potosi Peak Panorama | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||
VIEW FROM THE STANDARD ROUTE TO POTOSI PEAK At about 6:30 in the morning, as we ascended Coffee Pot's south slopes, (which is the only decent way to climb Potosi Peak), we were treated to this incredible view. We are looking south across Yankee Boy Basin (far right) and Governor Basin (center). Short and stubby Stony Mountain is in the foreground. Long connecting ridges are seen here, nothing much in the way of specific peaks save for a few: The dark slopes of Potosi Peak are on the far left. United States Mountain is on the far left above Potosi's slopes. Mount Emma is toward the right, with the famed (and likely unclimbed) Sapinero Needles to the left of it. On the far right is Gilpin Peak, located at the head of Yankee Boy Basin and directly south of Mount Sneffels, the second highest 14er of the San Juan range (not seen here). San Juan range, Summer, 2007. Digital panorama photo by Aaron Johnson utilizing Corel Photo Paint software and a bit of doctoring. It looks pretty good when viewed big. Comments |
