San Miguel Mountains from Golden Horn [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
San Miguel Mountains from Golden Horn
A stunning view is experienced from the Golden Horn-Vermilion Peak saddle above Ice Lake Basin, west of Silverton. Looking northwest, we see the San Miguel Mountains, Trout Lake and the Lizard Head Pass area. The San Miguels are home to three of Colorado's more challenging 14ers: Wilson Peak (right of center), Mount Wilson (left, in clouds) and El Diente (not seen), as well as a challenging high 13er, Gladstone Peak (center). Down in front of Gladstone Peak is Colorado's renowned Lizard Head Peak, reportedly the state's most dangerous mountain (due to rotten rock). 2007 SP Summer Gathering, San Juan Mountains.
