Engineer Mountain, Northeast Ridge [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Engineer Mountain, Northeast Ridge
The ascent of Engineer Mountain begins in earnest on steep scree and tundra, graduating to loose scree and rock scrambling (Class 2), then through an alcove on the ridge (seen here between two thin spires of gray rock) (Class 3), exiting out through the crux move on the ridge crest (Class 4 for some) before assuming a common climbing trail through loose talus to the top (Class 2). This is a fun, beautiful and exciting mountain to climb, and the view is impressive. Inexperienced folks should try other routes with mild exposure though before trying this one. Summer, 2007, San Juan Mountains.
