| Engineer Mountain, Northeast Ridge | [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ] | |||||||||||
Above the crux section, looking down the east face of Engineer Mountain could be a startling revelation for some folks. The east face is very steep with very little to stop a fall. Confidence in one's climbing ability must be assured before proceeding. Two variations are available through this crux section, which begins just left of the lowest gendarme. Stay left and climb along this side of the next gendarme up to the tiny ledge (8 inches wide) in the lower left hand corner, or ascend a crack in the face (lower right hand corner) which involves exiting onto and climbing tiny, rubble covered holds. This move is rated Class 3 for some, others rate it Class 4. Summer, 2007, San Juan Mountains. Digital photo by Ellen Ritt Comments [ Post a Comment ]
