Silky Phacelis, Phacelia Sericea [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Silky Phacelis, Phacelia Sericea
I don't know these. Only that I never tire of the variety and wonder how they do it. Help? Got some help, looks like Silky Phacelia, Phacelia Sericea. A google search confirms what Kerstin suggested. Thanks.

be a high-altitude form of Phacelia sericea, Silky Phacelia. I have Phacelia sericea in my yard but the flower spikes are slightly elongated instead of ball-shaped like the plant in your photo. But sometimes the same species can look quite a bit different at very high altitude. What elevation was this photo taken at? How tall is the plant?

Hope this helps!

Elevation was about 6,000 feet. The plant was about 10 inches high. I have been all over the local flower shops that were supposed to be experts for alpine flowers in our area, but no one so far can id? Thanks.

Here are a few links with photos:

Here's another photo that looks a lot like yours--scroll down a bit to see Phacelia sericea:

The second photo looks so much like your picture! In any case, it's a beautiful alpine plant!

Kerstin, thank you for the identification! Norman, if your are satisfied with the information received, please detach your picture from the Unidentified flora and fauna album within the next week so that the album remain 'fresh'. Thanks.
