The Melt Chamber [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The Melt Chamber
En-route to a summit of Oregon's Broken Top peak, I spent an extra night camped nearby to get some photo opportunities in the area below the mountain. On the lowest flanks of a large snowfield, I found this irresistible cavern carved out by rushing melt water. On a bright, clear day, the thin ceiling was especially luminescent, revealing its textures. Inside the chamber about 50-60 feet from the entrance, which provided some extra light, I made this image using a long exposure (tripod) in very dark conditions. I actually quite enjoyed standing around in the cold, wet conditions (although cramped), as it was unseasonably warm outside.

This is amazing and unlike anything I've ever seen outside of sci-fi CGs. I've always been a big fan of long exposure photos of running water.

indeed that is an incredible photo, great job. The colour turned out really nice, what sort of WB have you used, do you often use the same WB or is it custom? Any filters? Do you bring a heavy duty tripod with you into the mountains for long still exposures like this one?

I wish I had the motivation to leave my point and shoot and lug the SLR out into the wilds. I have a true respect for people like you that natures art and put it on a canvas for us to see. keep up the great work
