| Roe Deer | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) is the smallest species of deer native to Europe. It weights from 18 to 29 kg. Its summer coat is rich brown in colour. In winter the fur is thick and long and it has gray or grayish brown color with a white rump patch. Unlike other species of deer the Roe is mostly a solitary animal. They live either alone, or in small groups made up of a female and her young. Only males of this species have antlers.
This female was photographed near Black Creek by Rymanow Zdroj. The Low Beskid, July 2007

Hasn't voted | Thank you for the nice words. I have seen roe deer many times but I only managed to photograph them once. It was a rainy and gloomy day, but it got better when I saw her. Henryk

Voted 10/10 | The Polish landscape is so beautiful; reminds me of the flora & fauna of the western U.S. In Arizona - the Coues Whitetail roams the sunny highlands of central Arizona. It shares it's territory with the much larger Mule deer. Higher up, the Black bear & Mountain lion PREY on the deer. The FOOD CHAIN of life!
THANKS for sharing these wonderful photos. | | Posted Oct 19, 2007 12:35 am |

Voted 10/10 | Very impressive & interesting! Do you have any MOOSE, or are they located further north in Scandinavia? (Moose are related to Reindeer.)
The mighty OAK trees - they are related to Beech trees. AND, the Quaking aspen related to willows. Everything is connected. Have fun!!! | | Posted Oct 19, 2007 5:38 pm |
