Il Lenzuolo [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Il Lenzuolo
This section is called "Il Lenzuolo" (the bedsheet). I didn't ask why, I was too concentrated on making the traverse and didn't care much about the origin of its name.

I thought that lenzuolo meant shroud - the sheet that is wound around a corpse.

Lenzuolo means bedsheet in Italian but you could also use "lenzuolo" for shroud if you would use a bedsheet as a shroud.

Thanks, Sergio. Shrouds would usually be bedlinen (sheets or blankets) before being used to wrap the dead, surely? Very few people (before commercial undertakers became widespread) would keep sheets for the sole purpose of wrapping the dead? Though the Shroud of Turin, if genuine, was obviously not bedlinen - it's 4.4m long.

A detailed conversation about the details of burial is what mountaineering forums really need, isn't it? ;-(
