Curious Marmot [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Curious Marmot
When Josh (joshlewis) and I were at the summit of Mt. Pugh, a curious marmot crawled out from under a rock a few feet away, having had no apparent interactions with humans before. It looked at us with fascination, before crawling back into its hole again. Here is another picture of this same marmot, sticking only its head out of its rock.

Thank you. This marmot was almost asking for me to take a picture of it, as it kept coming out and looking at me before crawling back under a rock.

seem less shy than those of the Alps! I have never got a good shot of an Alpine marmot, except near Saas Fee, where they are almost tame.

I think that the only reason this marmot allowed me to get so close to it was because it had never seen a human before. We saw another marmot at a lower (and easier to reach) elevation that seemed quite cautious of us.

Thanks for the comment! These marmots were actually all over the mountain, and the granite covers a large portion of the summit.
