The Bottom of the Sea [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The Bottom of the Sea
This is a piece of sandstone-quartzite, a rock found in abundance on several peaks in Shenandoah National Park's South District. This rock was once (250-300 MYA) at the bottom of an inland sea that covered what is today the Appalachian Region, formed by pressure from sediments above.

This piece is on an outcrop near the Calvary Rocks.

Shenandoah National Park, VA-- August 2007
