An annotated view of our route up Chaval's West Face on May 26, 2003. The orange dots are our belay locations (one pitch for ascent, and one for the downclimbing descent). On the ascent, we soloed all the way up to the first orange dot. Steep and sometimes hard snow made for some real butt-cheek puckering at times. However, a fortuitous rocky break in the snow allowed for a nice belay anchor. On the descent, we couldn't rappel the face because we only had a 30m rope for three of us. It just wasn't practical.

Certainly!

Double diamond run at the top, easing to diamond in the mid section, easing to intermediate at the base. You could make a long run for about 1 mile all the way from 7,100 feet to 5,600 ft without stopping (though there may be one hump to "ski" over).
