| Mist Mountain Colors | [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ] |
Oregon's Broken Top Peak emerges from the morning mist, complimented by a stunning field of wildflowers. The peak is far more beautiful than its climbing routes - mostly crumbly 3's and 4's in the Summer season. Winter can bring some steep and interesting mixed terrain, however.

Voted 10/10 | the point of being believable ... a longer exposure for the flowers up close makes some sort of abrupt visual transition across the mist belt. Compare for example with your picture of the underbelly of a snowfield, where transitions between levels of exposure feel seamless. | | Posted Aug 26, 2007 2:08 pm |

Hasn't voted | It's a very different image with a lot of exposure challenges for sure. I should start by saying this appears here very close the in-camera capture, with only color and exposure levels adjusted a little. I had to control some significant highlights on the peak while maintaining enough brightness in the foreground to showcase the colors, using a graduated ND filter. The mist was a compliment to the scene IMO, but also creates a division between the elements that some may find makes the photo less visually cohesive. The light levels within the misty areas fell within the transistion zone between exposures. | | Posted Aug 26, 2007 2:32 pm |

Voted 10/10 | Yes, that's what seemed to be very interesting to me - how the veil of mist adds to the enchantment of the scene and yet paradoxically at the same time prompts an eye to cut the picture into the two regions ... so it subtracts something from my perception just as it adds to it. | | Posted Aug 26, 2007 3:17 pm |
