Forces of Nature [ Sizes: Orig | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Forces of Nature
Here's a favorite of mine. This image features some of Glacier National Park's most famous and dramatic peaks from the shore of St. Mary Lake. St. Mary is one of the windiest places you'll ever experience this side of Patagonia, especially in late October when I captured this one. I had my camera on a heavily weighted tripod and was attempting to control the exposure and capture some wave action (much like working with an ocean) while shooting into the teeth of 40mph winds. Suddenly, about an hour before the sun disappeared, a beam broke through otherwise dramatic clouds and illuminated the lake surface. I simply waited for another wave to crash on the outer rocks and fired the shutter, capturing this image. I used a polarizing filter and ND-grad filter to bring out the contrasts and control the exposure.
