Sorry, I was not meaning to be rude, but I have
posted a picture with a similar viewpoint and
lighting which is bigger and sharper and contains
more detail.
Maybe you want to remove this picture and leave
the one I posted instead ?

Hmm... Ulli's photos look different enough to me that I would be inclined to vote for keeping Dirk's photo on SP. The angle is certainly different as the left side of the peak in this photo appears steeper than on the two others photos. I think this one is fairly dramatic - almost like an oil painting. Just my 0.02 euros.

The reason for Dirks picture showing a steeper
mountain is that there was obviously some
distortion while scanning or resizing the picture.
This is certainly not how the mountain looks like
in the real world, which was my initial reason for
wanting to replace it. My photo was taken with a
digicam in November, and I can assure you that it looks
like _this_ and is not as dramatically steep
as in the original picture.
The comparison with the oil painting in quite good,
but beeing obviously a scan from some paper picture
it might confuse people about reality.
I am not 100% happy with the quality of the pictures
my camera did that day (too bright & not as sharp as
they could be ), so the best would be probably if
someone with a good Digicam goes out there (which
is a crowded tourist spot - a train station) in good
lighting conditions and takes that *ideal* picture,
and I will be more than happy to take my pictures down
from SP and would also vote for the original picture
beeing taken down because it is far from being realistic.

After taking a closer look at all 3 photos, it appears that the angle in Dirk's photo is in between the two photos you submitted as evidenced by the mountain behind le Petit Dru. Based on this, I'm guessing all 3 photos were taking from different locations.
Ulli Photo 1: Cannot see 2nd mountain at all
Dirk Photo: Can see lower flank of 2nd mountain
Ulli Photo 2: 2nd mountain with summit exposed
To my eyes, Dirk's photo in question looks similar to this one. Some good additional photos are available at The Climbing Dutchman and Risk Online.
In any event, you were right to ask Dirk regarding your request that he remove this photo. The current SP policy is that photos can only be deleted by the submitter (if you think a different policy should be in effect, you can post a reply to this thread).
My personal opinion regarding this particular photo is that it is a dramatic and striking photo (even if the quality is only fair) so it would be a shame to lose it. After all, SP isn't a book that can has a limited number of pages. Perhaps the solution would be a compromise similar to the Balmenhorn page: to leave the photo but include/attach a discussion on how realistic it is? What do you think?

I don't see why my picture can confuse people. There are enough pictures available thet are taken from all kinds of different angles. My picture of the Aiguille du Dru shows how impressive and overwhelming this mountain can be experienced. A painting sometimes gives us a better image than a photo can.
My picture stays where it is. I would like to ask you not to put any more pictures on my page without first asking me. OK?

To get this whole ill-faited thread cleared up:
I assure you that I am happy to take any of my
pictures off SP if someone else submits a similar picture of
better quality. Thats why I made my suggestion as an offer
to improve your page.
I don't really understand your aggressive tone: ... "stays where it is" ....
I tried to be polite and help you - I could have made my point just
as clear as your comment is:
This picture is a bad quality scan that was additionally resized wrong
-> poor work, sorry.
But hey, it's your page, and you can decide whatever you want to do with it.
Still I can put any photo I want on any page, including yours
and the quality votes of visitors will decide whether they are
worth staying on the main page.(Unless you detach them intentionally,
which you are free to do.)
I still don't understand why you react this way, especially
after our friendly emailing. Anyway, I hope we'll understand
each other better in the future. I'll stop my additions to this
thread here.
