these passes join the high part of Val Formazza with the 2 Swiss valleys :
the Rhone valley (W of Nufenen pass, beyond the damn) and the Val Bedretto (E of Nufenen pass)

su internet si trovano foto dei primi anni 90: il ghiacciaio arrivava dentro il lago
