The Glacier on Wheeler Peak, NV [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
The Glacier on Wheeler Peak, NV

The glacier on Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park, NV, is the only glacier in Nevada. The glacier is mostly covered by talus, hence it's often referred to as a rock glacier. The summit of Wheeler Peak is above the clouds on the right side of the image. However, the traditional route to the peak is along the top of the headwall, continuing off the image to the right. Imaged in August 2007.

Countdown til someone starts to argue that it's not a "real" glacier.

(Nice TR and photos, by the way.)

Yes, this does pale in comparison to some of the wonderful glaciers I see posted to SP. Thanks for looking and reading! --mark d.

Common at the lower ends of the big Himalayan glaciers eg the Ngozumpa Glacier south of Gokyo in the Solu Khumbu.
