View up Andrews Glacier toward the Continental Divide - September 16, 2007.

The snowfield was under late summer conditions, all hard ice and puddles, with melt-water running down the face. The water and debris on the snow made for some interesting visual patterns. Although I was unable to ascend the ice all the way to the Divide (being without ax or other tools), it was a joy just to be there, amidst the runoff and silt and rocks. At one point I found a tiny fountain in the ice, where the water was welling up from below and jetting a few inches into the air, then falling and running down to join the larger flows.
