Agassiz Peak in Autumn [ Sizes: Orig | Large | Med | Small | Thumb ]
Agassiz Peak in Autumn
Arizona's second highest point, as seen from the east at Lockett Meadows. Agassiz Peak is considered scared to native people, and lies in the San Francisco Peaks Volcanic Field. Naturalist C. Hart Merriam carried out an extensive "biological survey" here in 1872. At 8,000 ft., Lockett Meadows lies within the "Mixed Conifer Forest Zone," where fir trees & quaking aspen are neighbors. The Inner Basin Trail begins here; on the west side of the meadows at the trailhead parking inside Lockett Meadows Campground.

Great shot. However, that's Agassiz Peak, the second highest peak in AZ. Humphreys is to the right and is out of the frame.

Yes, you're right juh33! I was wonderin'
when somebody would drop a comment.
I'd like to get a shot of Humphreys from
atop Sugarloaf. It's an awesome area!!!
I'll do the edit - Payson got snowed on
good. Can only imagine what Humphreys got.
Thanks, man.

I checked my shot of the Peaks from Sugarloaf, and I missed Humphreys too. Crap! Yeah, we got dumped on here. I was up on Agassiz today, kicking through 2-3 feet of powder. Rough climb!

Oh, come on! I bet it wasn't as
rough as some of those climbs you
did in South America. Powder is good!
After that Lockett Meadows road melts
out, I need to run up there and snap
a photo of Humphreys. Take care!
